Where's My Sticker?

With coffee in-hand, I schlepped by City Hall in downtown NYC to one of the many court buildings to cast my 3rd Presidential Election ballot. Only, like many a bad club doorman nightmare, I wasn't "on the list". Sadly, I somewhat suspected this might be the case, and probably should have just illegally re-registered to make things simpler. Apparently having a NY State driver's license (and checking the "voter registration" box) as well as voting two years ago (with the same home address and voting location) wasn't enough to keep me in the system.
"Didja vote in dem primaries electshun?" a booth volunteer inquired.
"No, I was out of the country." I responded.
"Ah, das prolly why. Dey prolly gave you da boot for yur registrashun, prolly." she explained.
Well thank you. I'd "prolly" like to vote now. After being sent in a few loops of ignorance and confusion, I was eventually handed an old-fashioned, paper Affidavit Ballot (pictured below). It was kinda fun to get the old, tactile version, even though I'm sure it'll never get counted.
First of all, I'm really annoyed that I didn't get an "I voted!" sticker. WTF? Isn't that the whole point? I demand one to be sent immediately.

Second of all, turnout today should make it increasingly clear that the voting system has got to be modernized and overhauled. C'mon now, we've never had the access currently available to us regarding cheap technology, incredibly gifted graphic and textual design, and the vast simplicities of the internets. Why can't we make it easier for people to participate in their government? I know the naysayers out there might come up with a zillion ways to poke holes in any new concepts, but you can't possibly tell me it wouldn't be an improvement over the strained system experienced all over the country today. I mean, the person trying to identify voter districts at my polling location could barely speak English (mostly a Chinatown crowd), had no idea what she was doing flipping through the archaic books, and on and on. People are so desperate to participate, but couldn't be more overwhelmed and confused going into voting situations that differ from block to block, more or less from state to state. A one-third voter turnout for "early voting" should be an obvious cry for change. It's time for an upgrade, America.
In other amusing voter news... you can vote for the 29yo bi assemblyman. In addition, the judge that ruled on my ongoing apartment drama is on the ballot. Interesting...
The question is, despite being informed that my Affidavit Ballot would automatically register me, should I illegally re-register anyway?

6 people said stuff.:
un-flippin believable.
i vote absentee so i couldn't get a sticker today either, so i have taken a sharpie to my hand that says "I voted" with a circle around it.
i suggest you do the same.
i wonder if it works to get the free coffee at starbucks?!?
hahaha, Starbucks free coffee ruled ILLEGAL :-)
so you only have to "ask for free coffee" instead of showing your sticker!! so hop to it!! hit every starbucks you can and have coffee jitters by the end of the day!
and yes, re-register illegally, i see no potential long term damage by doing so
You might've thought to check for yourself to assure registration before blaming the city. Obviously more people got it right than wrong. www.canivote.org It isn't that hard.
And so judgemental of those who volunteer their time to help.
Thanks anonymous, for the dissenting opinion. I certainly don't get enough of that -- and I don't disagree with you. I did actually check my registration, but sadly, it was beyond the mid-October registration date before I discovered/noticed/paidenoughattention and didn't have many options left to do anything about it.
Perhaps the irony of your message is that it's easy to be "judgemental" of me when you're "anonymous." But no hard feelings.

Ummm. This may as well be a post on my blog, as it's EXACTLY the same situation I went through yesterday (even down to the fact that my ID says Matt). I called the Obama campaign and apparently they had a lot of people in NY who were "mysteriously" switched to "inactive" status despite actually being "active." That's some bullshit. And I was pissed about my lack of sticker as well. Bullshit.
In other news:
Beyonce's new album...in case you're interested.
