Macinstruct: Dropbox+iPad

Nerd alert! You’re probably getting sick of me talking about Dropbox (referral!), but it just got even better today. It may have had the capabilities all along, but the form factor was such a turn off that it wasn’t worth bothering with. Today’s update of the Dropbox app brought iPad compatibility, however, and now it’s a whole other ballgame.

The best part? You can “favorite” a file and it’ll save a local copy.

Big whoop? Well, what happens if you 1) have a huge backlog of movies sitting around at home. 2) Are on the road and don’t have access to ‘em. 3) Are able to utilize the magic of BackToMyMac to throw a few into your Dropbox from afar. And 4) Can now suddenly download them locally. Fuck syncing files to get them onto your iPad. Fuck renting/buying/streaming on Netflix. Works flawlessly. You can jump ahead in the movie even if it hasn’t downloaded from that point yet. Bring on the local copy. And you can add/remove movies at your whim for easier local management of files should you have gotten the 16gig version. Oh, and in theory, it should work on your iPhone…
